Do I need a referral or a prescription from a doctor to start Physical Therapy?
No, you do not need a prescription to be seen by a physical therapist in the State of Colorado; this is called “Direct Access” and was established by law in Colorado in 1988. That being said, some insurance plans still require a prescription in order to reimburse for physical therapy services. With the exception of Medicare and Medicaid, most insurance plans no longer require a prescription. If you are using insurance, you can call us to find out if your plan requires a doctor’s prescription.
Will my insurance pay for treatment? What would I have to pay each visit
If physical therapy is covered under your insurance plan, they will pay. If you are working toward a deductible, you will be responsible for the allowed amount. If your deductible is met or you don’t have a deductible, you will most likely have a co-payment or co-insurance that you will be responsible for. We can give you a specific description of your coverage by providing us with your insurance information.
